How to handle product variants in Odoo PoS?

Handling product variants in Odoo Point of Sale (PoS) is straightforward, but it depends on the Odoo version you're using. In recent versions, Odoo PoS supports product variants natively, allowing you to select attributes like size or color directly at the time of sale.


If you're not seeing variant options in your current setup, it might be due to limitations in your existing version. In such cases, an Odoo version migration can help. Upgrading to a newer version (e.g. Odoo 16 or later) ensures full support for product variants in the PoS interface, improved UI, and better performance.


To handle variants:

  1. Enable variants in your product settings.

  2. Define product attributes and values (e.g., Size: S, M, L).

  3. Create the main product and configure its variants.

  4. In PoS, the system will prompt for the variant selection during order placement.


After an Odoo version migration, make sure to test variant functionality thoroughly, especially if you use custom modules, to ensure compatibility and avoid disruptions.
